Welcome to the new website of the Iberian Group of Arachnology (GIA)
The GIA is an operative organization, devoted to the study of arachnids sensu lato, which intends to direct the interests, illusions and efforts of everyone interested in Arachnology.
In accordance with the approved statutes, and in a short synthesis, the nature, objectives and structure of the Group are the following:
- The GIA is defined as an autonomous working group inside the Aragonese Entomological Society (SEA), without legal personality, but with a view to become an independent association in the future.
- Regarding the objectives, they are the promotion and spreading of all kind of arachnological studies. This brief definition contains in reality a broad intervention field, open to all "arachnological", which basically intends to include:
- All taxa traditionally recognized as inside the Cheliceromorpha and Pycnogonimorpha (with an invitation to all iberian specialists in this group to join us)
- Any geographical area, not establishing limits a priori. Nevertheless, the GIA considers as natural its work in iberian, balearic and macaronesian context.
- All kinds of disciplines (systematics, taxonomy, physiology, biogeography, ecology, etc.).
- The governing organs of the GIA are the General Assembly, as expression of the social willingness, and a Directing Board composed of an undetermined number of persons, one of which acts as president, and assumes, in accordance with the other members, the broader capacities of management, decision and Group administration.
